“To invest in urban resiliency and affect change, you must be crystal clear about where you want to go and then set a course of action to get there. And information is power. MEASURE Galveston delivers a ‘master data’ of key metrics that can help us qualify and quantify relevant information—community data that follows the essential indicators of community well-being—allowing everyone to be on the same page.”
Zahrah Ektefaei, Coordinator, Special Initiatives, Galveston ISD
Vision Galveston’s MEASURE Galveston is a collaborative initiative that empowers stakeholders with the information needed to act appropriately—both collectively and individually—to help build a community that can reach its full potential. Data will drive informed and collaborative actions across sectors, contributing to a powerful force needed for Galveston to become a more vibrant and equitable region.
Each year, Vision Galveston will update and publish a new MEASURE Galveston report that measures Vision Galveston’s effectiveness, benchmark opportunities and illustrates Galveston’s progress toward identified goals.
2021 Highlights and Milestones
The first MEASURE Galveston report was published in 2021, identifying metrics in key categories to chart progress towards community goals. MEASURE Galveston chose datasets representative of quality-of-life factors that can make Galveston special. These areas include housing, the environment, civic engagement, education, economic opportunity, transportation, arts and culture, health and healthcare, and community safety and justice.
The report’s master dataset of critical metrics identified and established goals that quantify and highlight Galveston and Vision Galveston’s progress. This community data tool follows essential indicators of community well-being, allowing stakeholders to understand better where things stand today, set goals, and track progress in the mid-to-long term.
By the end of 2021, MEASURE Galveston began to engage the community and stakeholders to identify key goals for 2022.
