JANAE PULLIAM

Janae Pulliam is a 6th generation Galvestonian with a background in graphic design, communications, and non-profits. She was the first black communications professional at the City of Galveston, the Galveston County Health District, and the Rosenberg Library.

Pulliam earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of North Texas and her minor in Mandarin Chinese in 2014. Locals may have seen her work in the Health District’s daily COVID-19 updates of 2020-2021, all social media and graphic design work for the Rosenberg Library from 2021-2024, and humorously, the design of the downtown Galveston parking signs.

Janae Pulliam comes from a long line of community advocates and has continued this tradition in her own unique way, from working with children to providing professional designs for local non-profits. She has volunteered and worked with many places, including, but not limited to, the Nia Cultural Center, Moody Methodist, Church of the Living God, and the Galveston Island Humane Society. She is of the strong conviction that empathy without bold action results in empty sympathies and is willing to be the uncomfortable voice that advocates for better.

In her down time, Pulliam likes to do just about everything. She enjoys reading about modern and ancient cultures, Christian apologetics/theology, and romance. She loves trying out new crafts like papermaking and clay molding. She tries (and fails) to keep up with languages and music, often playing videogames, hanging out with her friends and her many play-cousins, or sleeping instead.
