Steven J. Baines

Senior Consultant Talent and Organizational Development / University of Texas Medical Branch

Steven J. Baines is an organizational and leadership development consultant, trainer, and executive coach. He is a senior talent and organizational development consultant at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, TX.  His current community involvement in Galveston includes a board member of Vision Galveston; advisory board member of MORTAR Galveston; trainer and graduate of Leadership Galveston, part of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce; past president of the board of directors of Galveston’s Own Farmers Market; and a former Toastmaster of the Year and past president of ANICO Articulators Toastmasters.  

A native of Cincinnati, OH, Steven worked for six years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He also worked and lived overseas twice.  First, as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Bolivia, for over two years, and second, for three years as an HIV/AIDS and partnership development program manager for Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Malawi.   

As chairperson of the board for the City of Cincinnati Health Department, he was responsible for more than $40 million. He was the diversity and inclusion co-chair for the Human Rights Campaign in Greater Cincinnati, and one of their national diversity, inclusion & equity trainers for LGBTQIA+ representation.  

Steven holds a master’s in industrial and organizational philosophy, Walden University, Minneapolis, MN; a master’s in international & Intercultural Management, School for International Training, Brattleboro, VT, and a bachelor’s in Communications, Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology, Walden University.
